Find a GP (huisarts)

Register with a huisarts as soon as you arrive — it's your gateway to all other healthcare in the Netherlands. These are curated practices known to welcome expats and treat in English.

GP capacity changes constantly — a practice listed here as accepting new patients may be full by the time you call. Always confirm directly with the practice before relying on a listing. Not listed here yet? Most cities have other good options — search zorgkaartnederland.nl by postcode, or ask your health insurer (they're legally required to help you find a GP).

Good to know before you register

• You generally need to live within ~15 minutes of the practice — they need to reach you for emergencies.
• Register as soon as you have a BSN and Dutch health insurance — don't wait until you're sick.
• Bring ID and your insurance details. Many practices let you register online first.
• Outside office hours, contact the regional huisartsenpost (out-of-hours GP service) — never go straight to A&E unless it's a real emergency (call 112).
